Fake: Chinese delegation leaves WFE session hall in Davos after Zelensky’s address, snubs ovation
Russian media claim that the Chinese delegation at the World Economic Forum in Davos allegedly made a demarche after the speech by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, leaving the session hall. The media cited U.S. Rep. Michael McCall and showed what was claimed to be the photo capturing the moment.
“The Chinese delegation left the hall after Zelensky’s speech in Davos.
The Chinese delegation did not join the standing ovation after the speech of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky at the World Economic Forum in Davos and soon left the hall. This was announced by a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Republican Michael McCall, writes RIA Novosti.
On CNN, the senator showed a photograph of a seated Chinese delegation surrounded by applauding delegates. According to McCall, Chinese diplomats were the only ones present who refrained from standing ovations after Zelensky’s speech. Based on this, one can conclude, McCall believes, that the delegation sent a signal that they do not support Ukraine and Zelensky.
In fact, there are no grounds to claim any demarche or disrespect on the part of the Chinese delegation to the President of Ukraine. It is easy to prove this by watching the video of Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech, available on the website of the World Economic Forum. The President ends his address to the audience with the following words: “I wish all of you to wake up one fine day and think about what you have done for Ukraine today.” As follows from the video, the audience greeted Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech with applause. Immediately after Zelensky’s speech, the founder and head of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab, announced the completion of the session. In conclusion, on behalf of all those present, he reaffirmed unity in relation to Ukraine. Only after that, part of the audience left the hall, while part remained to participate in the next session, which was supposed to be held in the same room.
The PRC also denied the report that the Chinese delegation left the conference hall of the World Economic Forum after Zelensky’s speech. State-run news agency Xinhua reported that during Zelensky’s speech at the forum, Chinese representatives led by Xe Zhenhua were in talks with the head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol. According to Caixin Global, the meeting did take place while the Ukrainian leader was delivering his address. The China Macro Economy edition notes that in 2022, China’s delegation was the smallest in many years. According to the publication, this is due to quarantine restrictions. Later it became known, as Caixin Global found out, that in the photo shown by Congressman McCall, there are members of the Vietnamese delegation. Meanwhile, for the first time since the collapse of the USSR, the Russian delegation has not been invited to the Davos forum. This is due to the ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
